ST. The signs activate with winds in excess of 25 MPH. If wind speeds increase and exceed 40 MPH, law enforcement will stop traffic for vehicle safety reasons.

Closure Policy
We've had our engineers design the reconstruction of the interstates so as to disrupt travel of the motoring public the least possible. That's why the majority of our interstate closures are done during the late-night and early-morning hours. In most cases, you will find at least the same number of lanes open during daytime hours as were available before construction began. Though our closure hours vary from project to project, the general window for lane closures is 9:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Please go to the project areas of your choice (by clicking on the interstate shields to the left) for specific closure hours for those projects and for currently scheduled projects in those areas.

511 Travel Information
For real time traffic information, motorists can dial 511 or visit the 511tampabay.com Web site.  We encourage you to call before you go (to avoid using the phone while driving) to find out about conditions on your planned route.

Commercial Radio Traffic Reports
Motorists should be aware that the Tampa Bay area has several traffic reporting agencies that provide local radio and television stations with traffic information. These reports are updated and broadcast frequently on most area stations, particularly during the morning and afternoon drive times. Information provided includes areas of heavy traffic volume, accidents, and closures.

Alternate Routes
If you choose to avoid traveling through our construction areas, other corridors are available as alternatives:

For Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County, these alternate routes include U.S. Highway 92, State Road 574, State Road 60, and the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway. All of the roads are south of the I-4 corridor, and with the exception of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway, all will take you through urbanized areas with many crossroads and intersections.

For Interstate 275 in Hillsborough County, both Florida Avenue and Nebraska Avenue (U.S. 41) run parallel to the interstate.

For Interstate 275 in Pinellas County, 4th Street, 9th Street, and U.S. 19 are major alternative roadways.

Please consult a road map to choose the route most suitable to your needs.
